The Columbus Blue Jackets (26-5-4) will host the Edmonton Oilers (19-12-7) tonight with the puck drop scheduled for shortly after 7:00 PM ET.
The Blue Jackets will start off the new year with a chance to extend their winning streak to 16 games tonight.
Columbus was victorious by a final score of 3-1 when the two clubs met three weeks ago to date in Edmonton. Since then, the Jackets of course haven’t lost a game. The Oilers have also been rather impressive themselves since then going 4-0-2.
An odd statistic to note is one involving Edmonton’s squad. Every one of their past nine games have been decided by a final score of either 3-1 or 3-2.
The Blue Jackets expect Sergei Bobrovsky to start in net for the time being. Bobrovsky earned player-of-the-month honors in the National Hockey League for December, but it’s the offense that’s the top-scoring unit in the league on a game-to-game basis.
However, the offensive player to watch on the ice tonight will be 19-year old center Connor McDavid. McDavid is having an outstanding second season in the NHL. He leads all players in assists (29) and is tied for the lead in points (43). Keep your eye out for jersey number 97 at all times.
Columbus will need to keep their edge and not get too comfortable with their winning ways as well as contain McDavid if they hope keep the winning streak alive tonight at Nationwide Arena.
