The Columbus Blue Jackets trail the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 in the best-of-seven series. Tonight they’ll look to grab their first playoff victory of 2017 in front of their home crowd at Nationwide Arena. The puck drop is scheduled for shortly after 7:30 PM ET.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will be without Zach Werenski for the remainder of the playoffs, who took a puck to the face in the second period of Game 3 on Sunday night.
However, it’s the 3-0 deficit to the defending Stanley Cup Champions that’s even more concerning at the moment.
So how do the CBJ get a playoff victory against Pittsburgh?
John Tortorella made a couple valid points about what needs to happen for his team to get a W this morning during his press conference. Here’s the first:
No matter what period we’re in we need to have the puck more.
The Blue Jackets simply can’t afford to be spending mounds of time in their defensive zone. They need to establish more of a forecheck for this series to shift in their favor.
Here’s the second statement Torts made that struck a chord:
There’s no question in playoffs your goaltender needs to be your best player… If we’re gonna put on that s**t for music, Bob needs to be our best player tonight.
(The team plays music after a victory, hence the reference).
It’s been all Penguins thus far. The Columbus Blue Jackets officially have their backs against the wall. How they respond; We’ll find out tonight.
