Week In Review
The Cleveland Indians were back at home this week to take on the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners. Despite dropping the first game of the Houston series, the Indians rebounded to take the next two to win the series. The story was the same against the Mariners. After losing the first game, the Tribe struck back winning the final two games to finish the week with two series wins.
Player of the Week
Closer Cody Allen recorded saves in three of the four Tribe victories this week, doubling his season total from three saves to six. He was dominant on the mound, striking out half of the batters he faced (five K’s in 3.1 innings).
Stat of the Week
Cody Allen wasn’t the only member of the bullpen to have a good week. Andrew Miller was dominant as usual this week, building off a great beginning to 2017 for the 31-year-old lefty. Miller struck out seven batters in 3.1 innings last week and has yet to allow an earned run all year.
About a month into the season, the Indians (14-10) sit atop the American League Central Division by half a game. The Chicago White Sox are currently in second place with the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins tied just two games back. The Kansas City Royals are still struggling early on, as they find themselves six games behind the Tribe.
Monday-Thursday: Tigers in Detroit
Friday-Sunday: Royals in Kansas City
The home/away pattern continues as the Indians hit the road again to face the Tigers and Royals away from Progressive Field. This will be the first visit of the year to both cities for the Indians. The Tribe lost two out of three to the Tigers in Cleveland two weeks ago, while next weekend’s matchup with the Royals will be the first meeting between the two teams in 2017.
Prediction for the Week Ahead
The Cleveland Indians are playing well of late, going 9-3 in their last 12 games. Last week’s prediction was spot on, so the bar has been raised for this week’s prediction. With seven games on the docket against the Tigers, who are also playing well, and the Royals, who aren’t, the Indians should continue their winning ways this week. The Tribe will split the series against the Tigers in Detroit and win two of three in Kansas City to finish the week 4-3.
