Pressure will be amped up this weekend for the Ohio State Buckeyes as they host the Oklahoma Sooners. Before the big game begins, let’s play a little game of Over/Under:
349.5 Yards Passing For Baker Mayfield
The Buckeyes gave up 420 yards through the air in week 1, but left Bloomington Indiana after allowing ONLY 17 yards rushing on the night (good for a top-five performance in all of college football). Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 19 of 20 passing attempts last week for 329 yards in the first half alone and averaged 306 passing yards per game a season ago. The combination of a stingy Ohio State D-line against the run and an elite college quarterback creates a forecast that calls for plenty of passing on Saturday.
2.5 Total Touchdowns For J.T. Barrett
Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett had four total touchdowns against the Hoosiers last week, passing for three and rushing for one. The play calling will be intriguing when Saturday comes around, especially considering the debut of running back Mike Weber in 2017. Expect the Bucks to score plenty of points this weekend, but make it a priority to hand the ball off first and foremost.
49.5 Passing Attempts For Baker Mayfield
After facing 65 passing attempts from Robert Lagow of the Hoosiers a week ago, it feels like a foregone conclusion that the Sooners will attack the Buckeyes’ secondary aggressively.
Now plenty of you might be wondering if Baker Mayfield has ever even had 60 passing attempts in a game. The answer is yes. During his college debut in 2013 Mayfield threw 60 passes as the signal caller of the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a matchup against Southern Methodist. Since the 2013 season, Mayfield hasn’t attempted more than 41 passes in a single game. That changes on Saturday night.
274.5 Yards Rushing For Ohio State
J.T. Barrett and J.K. Dobbins combined for 242 yards on the ground in week 1. Now the Buckeyes will add Mike Weber to the equation and will want to keep the ball out of the hands of Mayfield & Co. as much as possible.
64.5 Total Points
At this point you may be sensing a trend for Saturday’s game…
