The Columbus Blue Jackets (27-19-3) and Minnesota Wild (26-18-5) come into tonight’s matchup both having played the same number of games (49) with the same number of points (57) thus far. The puck drop is scheduled at Nationwide Arena for shortly after 7:00 PM ET.
The Columbus Blue Jackets’ offense has been abysmal at home lately. The team has failed to score more than two goals in regulation in their last showings, not doing so since they scored four goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs on December 20, 2017.
An odd, but ominous stat to add to that is that the CBJ are 1-3-0 in home games on Tuesday night this season— including a a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils and a 7-2 defeat to the Edmonton Oilers that both came in the month of December.
That all being said, the Blue Jackets will see Center Brandon Dubinsky return to the lineup and should easily be the odds-on favorite this evening— thanks in large part to the club having a 16-8-0 record at NWA and the Wild having a not-so-impressive road record of 9-14-1 this season.
While it’s difficult to imagine Columbus matching last season’s point total of 108, they still have a chance to do something they clearly didn’t accomplish in 2017…Finish strong.
We’ll see if the CBJ can get a boost tonight with a victory over the Wild, as they haven’t won three consecutive games going back to late November of last year (a win tonight would put the team one victory away from the feat).
