The CBJ Go For A Sweep In Three-Game Western Canada Trip Today: Face The Vancouver Canucks

While the Final Four in college basketball will commence this evening, the Columbus Blue Jackets (44-29-5) come into today with only four more games left in the regular season.  Today’s opponent is the Vancouver Canucks (29-40-9).  The puck drop is scheduled for shortly after 4:00 PM ET.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have been scorching hot lately—winning 12 of their last 13 games, including their previous six matchups on the road.

With the Final Four coming up later, it’s only fitting to give an ode to the number 4 on such a prominent Saturday.  Here we go:

The Jackets scored 4 or more regulation goals in only two of their 23 games prior to the trade deadline.

Columbus has scored 4+ regulation goals in 11 of 16 games.  That’s about an eightfold increase.

Also, after the trade deadline; Columbus has recorded four hat tricks (all of which have occurred away from Nationwide Arena) from Cam Atkinson, Artemi Panarin, Thomas Vanek and Pierre-Luc Dubois respectively.

Don’t let all the CBJ hype completely get to your head.  The Canucks have quietly strung together three consecutive victories, despite being 11 games below .500.  It would be a surprise if Jacob Markstrom doesn’t end up getting the start between the pipes today.  Markstrom is 4-0 (more 4 action for ya) in his previous 4 starts, saving over 96 percent of shots on goal in that span.

It’s another classic case of a home team with nothing to lose and a CBJ squad who’ll be battling for playoff position in the Eastern Conference.  Should be a fun 60 minutes of action.

I decided instead of moving somewhere else, I'd stay here in Columbus, Ohio and start a website that embraces what the 614 has to offer.
