The Columbus Blue Jackets will attempt to win their third consecutive game this evening, hosting the Detroit Red Wings at Nationwide Arena.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are off to a 6-4-0 start. That’s not much of a surprise, but nobody would’ve expected how they got there.
Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo is 4-0-0 this season. Korpisalo, who the number-two goalie behind Sergei Bobrovsky, for whatever reason, has the Jackets playing on another level when he’s between the pipes. Korpisalo will get the start tonight.
This evening’s opponent will be the Detroit Red Wings, who’ve had a rough start at 2-7-2 through nine games. The record is anything but a shock, considering the Wings are ranked 28th in Goals Per Game and 29th in Goals Against.
While Columbus will be a heavy favorite to win, one should note that these two teams went to overtime when they faced one another to open the season (Panarin scored the game winner) and that Detroit is coming off a 4-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Sunday night.
Head Coach John Tortorella has been begging for more consistency for 60 minutes from his club. If the CBJ can put a solid performance together on Tuesday, they should head west for their road trip later this week with two points in the bag.
