The Columbus Blue Jackets (39-28-3) will attempt to win their third consecutive game at Nationwide Arena as they host the Carolina Hurricanes (38-24-3). Puck drop is scheduled for shortly after 7:00 PM ET.
Columbus showed what they were capable of as a team on Tuesday night, scoring five consecutive goals at one point in a 7-4 victory over the Boston Bruins. Perhaps the most telling moment of that particular game was when the Jackets killed off Boston’s 5-on-3 opportunity followed by Boone Jenner scoring a shorthanded goal with only six seconds remaining in the opening period.
There’s no denying that the penalty kill has been a strength for the Jackets, who have allowed a league-low 28 power-play goals this season.
Columbus has been attempting to become a force to be reckoned with since the trade deadline. It looks like they may have found a line that clicks for newcomers Ryan Dzingel and Matt Duchene, who were on the ice with Josh Anderson in Tuesday’s win. In the aforementioned contest, all three players scored a goal and combined for eight points.
The CBJ will have their hands full tonight with Carolina, who are ahead of the Jackets by two points in the standings and have won seven of their last nine games. Keep an eye out for Sebastian Aho, who leads the Canes with 77 points (30 goals and 47 assists).
Columbus has only won one of their three matchups with Carolina this season and will be looking to get their first W against the Canes at NWA. We’ll see if the Jackets can rise to the occasion, or if they’ll disappoint the home fans.
